The Caspar Knobel - Jefferson Davis ( Spencer ) Carbine
This gun was considered tremendously important to history.
Attached to the butt of the carbine is the original newspaper
clipping detailing the event and historical significance of the carbine.
The capture of President Jefferson Davis (While wearing a lady's
shawl).
In a notarized letter dating from September 6th, 1910 Caspar Knobel states
that: "THIS (Spencer) CARBINE
WAS CARRIED BY ME WHEN I CAPTURED JEFFERSON DAVIS, PRESIDENT
OF THE SOUTHERN CONFEDERACY, ON THE MORNING OF MAY 10TH 1865
AT ABBYVILLE, GEORGIA. SWORN TO BY ME
Caspar Knobel of, Late A Company, 4th Michigan Cavalry."
