1861 Richmond High Hump Musket 1861 Richmond High Hump Musket |
Early dated 1861 Richmond High Hump musket. The early Richmond muskets have a very high hump lockplate. These were made from the original stampings for the model 1855 Maynard Tape Primer lockplates that were captured at Harpers Ferry. Note that the lockplate goes all the way up to meet the hammer. The lockplate is marked Richmond VA. This specimen is slightly shorter than the standard musket. It was made according to a Confederate directive to use damaged barrels by making shorter muskets.
