Manufactured: Springfield, MA / Columbus, GA  Maker: Ames / Haiman & Brother  Year: C1830s - Civil War  Model: Model 1833 dragoon Officer
Size: 34 inch blade  Condition: VG

A Scarce inspected 1833 Dragoon Officer's sword which is quite scarce in it's own right but put back into service by Haiman Brothers of Columbus, GA. The blade was completely etched and so marked by Haiman. The quill back blade is etched on the spine - L. Haiman & Brother Columbus, GA. The deep engraving is all floral and scroll work on the obverse with a slight trace of the original Ames needle point etch. The reverse has a bold CS with decoration, A
" chicken" Eagle with stars and last panel has a stand of arms, a pair of crossed First National Flags with 11 stars and a Federal shield with no stars. The guard is the Officer's Gilt Guard, ferrule and back strap. The only hilt marking is inspector JM on quillon. The grip is leather with fancy twist wire which I have seen on other Haiman products. The scabbard is the regulation steel with split carry rings. The drag is pitted but appears unmarked.
