CSA Naval/Marine Cutlass - only one know of this style.  This extremely rare southern cutlass was made to appear as a southern Officer Sword. The guard is cast brass and in the style of a M1841 Naval Cutlass. There is an oval, almost round hole where the guard joins the pommel very much like the Thomas, Griswold cutlass. This seems to be for a knot or lanyard. The blade, 1 & 7/16 wide is slightly curved with a 17 & 3/4 inch unstopped fuller. Blade 1/4 inch thick blade has a length of 24 & 1/8 inches. The grip is learther with fine twisted wire wrap. The pommel cap is well made and of the light Artillery style. The scabbard is back seamed black leather with Over lapped brass throat and drag with soldered seams. The top mount has a small, round frog stud.  The artillery style pommel was most often used by B. Douglass on their swords.  This cutlass has also been examined by several experts and they also think this may be the work of Leech & Rigdon. Possibly this was a collaboration early in the war of several makers or a special order for a Naval/Marine officer.
