M 1840 Cavalry Officer Saber-Presented to Lt. W. S. Stanley.  Presented Officer saber to LT Stanley by the 18th Ny Regmt.  Brass cast guard has heavy traces of gilt.  Sharkskin grip and wire are in very good condition.  Presentation is engraved onto the flat of the knucklebow.  It reads: Presented to Lt. W.S. Stanley by Co. A 18th Regt. N.G.N.S.Y.  Blade is flat backed and bright.  Obverse blade has the Schuler, Hartley & Graham NY etched on the ricasso.  Six inch panel of American Eagle with EPU Ribbon.  Reverse blade has Clauberg logo on ricasso with six inch panel with US.  Steel scabbard has no dents and has taken on a brown patina with some staining.  Lt.  Stanley has an extensive career.  He served with the 18th NY from 7/8/63 - 8/15/63.  He then mustered into the 13th NY light arty and later transferred into the NY 6th heavy arty.
