A scarce Ames General Officer sword with the Correct and Original solid brass Ames Scabbard. Smooth top dome pommel with false capstan nut embellished with a raised star on top and indented stars on the four sides. The underside of the dome is embellished with a chased leaf design. The knuckle bow has a silt for the sword knot and beaded decoration. The grip is sheet silver with pressed decoration to simulate wire wrap. The manufacturer marking is: N.P.Ames / cutler / Springfield is near the ricasso. The remaining etch pattern is typical of Ames etching with floral, American Eagle with E Pluribus Unum, 15 stars, rays & an American shield with U.S. The sheet brass, engraved scabbard has the rectangular and early style plaque: N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield applied near the throat. This Brass scabbard has the correct floral decorated frog stud with two carry rings on the top mount and a single ring on the middle mount. A completely original General Officer's sword from the 1833-40 period
