This elusive saber is marked near the ricasso N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1838 and along the blade has the bottom half of a wreath containing National Lancers. Made for the famous National Lancers of MS.The pommel is a smooth dome and the quillon and scabbard are stamped with a number. Only 2 sets of dies seem to have been used for these numbers. Both styles are shown on another sword in this work. The scabbards are brass with brass mounts and brass carry rings. (not the split ring type found on regulation 1833 dragoon sabers. All other features conform to the regulation model 1833 Dragoon.
