Deep blade etch of the early pattern. The reverse begins at the ricasso with cross hatching, N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield, a stand of Arms with a pair of drums and cannon, a U.S. Shield foliate, American Flags and the Liberty Cap. followed by floral design and a full mounted officer with chapeau and raised sword. A large U.S., Full Indian (Tecumseh) and floral. The obverse has acorns and Oak leaves, A stand of arms with U.S. flag, floral, A full spread American Eagle and a foliate finish. The gilt guard has decorated branches and pommel. The grip is deep brown leather with very fine, dragoon style wire wrap. It has a white buff blade washer. The scabbard is steel with thin mount (designating the officer scabbard) as well as a thin scabbard throat. The sword heavily gilded. The Ames blade etch is deep, sharp and clear.
