Very nice Mounted Artillery Officer's Sword. This blade is nicely etched with foliage, American Eagle, E. Pluribus Unum and a large U.S.. It is Etched with a large N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield making this a very early production likely for the Mexican War. The entire blade is very nice. The hilt retains a lot of gold showing through a nice untouched patina. The leather grip and twisted wire wrap are original and in excellent condition. The iron scabbard had a few very minor dings and a great deep plum patina. The pommel it beautifully decorated on the top. A really nice feature and seldom found. It only seems to appear on the earlier production.
