1840 Cavalry Officer Saber - Ames Springfield.   Really a stunning example of this rare saber.  Guard still retains 99% gilt.  Leather wrap and wire are excellent as well.  Blade retains full polish and frost. Obverse blade etch NP Ames Cutler Springfield / stand of arms - flags - liberty cap / Eagle with EPU ribbon and rays above / foliate.  Reverse blade etch foliate - flags / US /  foliate -  mounted officer /  foliate - Tecumseh.  Scabbard is bright but is taking on a nice gray patina and still has original leather liner in the throat.  This is a super rare saber in mint condition that is missing from most collections.
