M 1840 Ordnance/Military Storekeepers' Sword.  Rare sword as the storekeprs' service was very brief.  Essentially a medical staff sword with the langet cast with a panoply of arms.  Brass guard is in excellent condition with traces of gilt remaining.  Brass scabbard is engraved with floral designs where the mounts and drag would be and has some slight denting to the lower end.
Two carry rings are present as well as a frog stud.  Drag is not a blade style drag but a finial design. Blade is in great condition with visiable etch and some remaining frost.  Obverse side - foliate / stand of arms-liberty cap-flags / foliate / US Eagle / foliate.   Reverse side - Ames Springfield Cutler in dry needle / foliate / stand of arms-bow & arrows / folaite / casesus / foliate.  This is the identical sword pictured on pg. 180 of John Thillmann's Civil War Army Swords.
