M 1834 General Staff Sword - Rare steel scabbard.  This sword is from the Richard Johnson collection and is discussed in John Tillman's book Civil War Army Swords.  Sword is excellent overall.  Brass guard has no issues and still retains most of it's original gilt.  Silver wire wrap is excellent as well and has taken on a nice dark patina. Blade has a large center fuller and is bright with original frost.  Obverse of blade has NP Ames Cutler Springfield in dry needle in the ricasso / foliate / stand of arms - caduceus / Tecumseh / foliate.  Reverse of blade - foliate / stand of arms-liberty cap-flags / US Eagle with rays / foliate.  This is the only example know that has a steel scabbard.  Scabbard is excellent and has no pitting or staining.  Outstanding early sword with documented provenance.
