Super rare - M1833 North Carolina Dragoon Officer saber - Preview

To my knowledge only two of these rare sabers exist in private hands today.



Manufactured: Cabotville, Mass  Maker: Ames Mfg. Co.  Year: 1847-48  Model: Model 1833 Dragoon Officer 
Size: 33.9 inch blade  Condition:  

This Dragoon officer saber has the NC stamp on the quillon as can be found on the few examples of the North Carolina enlisted dragoon sabers. There are no other marks or inspector's stamps on the sword or scabbard. The blade is The grip is wrapped with sharkskin and wound with dragoon twist wire. The blade has the very scarce address of Ames Mfg. Co. / Cabotville / Mass which limits it's production to 1847 to 1848. The blade etching has the address, a potted urn,Tecumseh, ancient arms,American Eagle with E.PU ribbon and foliate. The reverse has similar decoration with the addition of crossed American flags within the stand of ancient arms. The scabbard is very lightly constructed with thin ring bands. The carry rings are old replacements.
