Fabulously crafted is putting it mildly for this 1841 Ames presentation sword. The guard, pommel and scabbard mounts are all cast in solid silver and finely chased and engraved. Capt. Labuzan is engraved on top of the knight's, plumed helmet pommel. Orleans Grenadiers is engraved on top of the cross guard which is cast with sea shells and an ordnance flaming bomb rising into the grip. The turned down clam shell guard is decorated with a swooping eagle, a shield poised in front of a panoply of arms with cannon, American flags, pike and musket and surrounded with 13 stars. The presentation is engraved on the shield and reads: Presented to / Capt. C. A. Labuzan / by the members of the / Orleans Grenadiers / January 24th / 1841.  The reverse side has a folding counter-guard. The grip is polished ebony with inlaid silver wire and Mother of Pearl. The 33 inch colichemarde blade is triangular with a wide forte having three blade fullers,  which then stepped down in width to a rapier point. It is beautifully etched on all three sides. The designs include Tecumseh standing with raised axe, a flaming ordnance bomb. a Federal Eagle with ribbon reading: d'Orleans Grenadiers as well as the maker mark: N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield. The brass scabbard is covered with white leather  and mounted with a 5.5 inch silver, engraved throat which is also engraved Capt. C. A. Labuzan / OG (Orleans Grenadier's) The frog stud is also silver and displays crossed flags and a Liberty pole. The engraved silver drag measures 6 inches and has an upside down ordnance bomb as the drag blade.
