One of the ultra rare regulation officer swords of the Revenue Cutter Service. A great Ames Model 1834 Revenue Marine sword.marked: N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield. The pommel is a globe with a Federal Shield under clouds and over sun rays with the reverse having Liberty over lightening bolts again over sun rays and under clouds. The grip is engraved sterling silver with floral and leaf design. The cross guard has a leaf design as do the quillons Both the spread winged eagle guard holding the Federal shield and the reverse plain guard with the ID inscription are folding guards. The engraved inscription reads: Lieut. J. L. Prouty / U.S. Rev. Marine. The slightly diamond shape blade has a center fuller blade is finely etched overall. The scabbard has gilt brass, engraved mounts with a Federal Eagle and stars on the top mount, The U.S. Revenue Cutter Service emblem on the middle mount and acorn & oak leaves on the drag. The top mount has a floral frog stud. The scabbard body is back seamed leather.
