Captain Edmund L. Dana Wyoming Artillery of PA during the Mexican War and Col. of the 143rd Pa. Wounded, prisoner, Gettysburg and Chancellorsville fame. Later Brig. General.

Size: 30.4 inch blade  Condition:  

The steel scabbard is engraved: Presented to Capt. E. L. Dana Wyoming Artillery by the citizens of / Wilkes bare, Pa. as a token of their regard for him as a soldier and a / gentleman. A parting gift intended to remind him ever of their / kindest wishes and their confident hopes. Decr 30th, 1846. The sword is a standard Ames type 1 Artillery Officer. The etched blade begins with a burst of rays, some cross hatching and a large scroll. Inside the scroll is the Ames address in dry needle etch. N.P.Ames / Cutler / Springfield, a large stand of flags with dry needle stars and a Liberty cap with LIBERTY.  It is followed by foliate, American Eagle with E.PU ribbon and finishes with foliate. The reverse has Acorns and oak leaves, A large U.S. with vines, Tecumseh and foliate. The grip is leather with twisted dragoon twist wire.
