North Carolina M1833 Dragoon saber - dated 1837 - Preview

A scarce dragoon saber made under contract for North Carolina in 1837



Manufactured: Springfield, Mass.  Maker: N. P. Ames Cutler  Year: 1837  Model: M 1833 Dragoon 
Size: 33.6 inch blade  Condition:  

Considered a secondary Confederate saber (one that was made for the southern states and there at the outbreak of the civil war). This is a standard 1833 dragoon saber with United Stated needle etched on the blade along with the maker and date:  N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1837. The blade is inspected JM. The quillon is inspected WS and state acceptance stamp of NC. The top of the quillon is stamped H.K.C. / ORD. The grip is leather covered with dragoon twist wire. The iron scabbard is marked on the side of the drag blade: N. Carolina and inspected WS on both sides at the bottom.
