Very rare blade inscription to a General.(only known example) "Gen'l. George M. Brooke / U.S.A." etched on this type I Artillery Officer Sword model 1840 by "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield". The blade also has a stand of Arms with U.S. flags, Liberty cap and a federal shield, Foliate, American eagle, E. Pluribus Unum. The reverse has acorn & oak leaves, Ancient Arms, Gen'l. George M. Brooke / U.S.A, Tecumseh and foliate. The guard is recessed for the scabbard and the recess filled with a buff washer. The pommel and guard are relief cast and gilded. The grip is leather wrapped with Dragoon style wire. The scabbard is the early type I made without the throat.
