M1834 Engineer Officer Sword by Ames, Inspected - Preview
A super sword, Ames marked and inspected. Believed to be the elusive Engineer Sword of this pattern.

Size: 29 3/4 inch blade, .756 in. wide & .26 thick
Condition:
The blade is oval in cross section and etched "N. P. Ames / Springfield" about 4.5 inches up the blade in a banner. It is inspected J.A.J.B. on the obverse ricasso area and Ord. on the reverse. The intricately etched designs start with a floral urn, the Ames address banner, acorns & oak leaves, Lady Liberty, an Eagle with stars above holding a ribbon reading "Free" followed by sun rays and a theater drape. The reverse has a floral design, crossed American flags with a Liberty cap, a wreath with U.S. in the center, a floral display followed by crossed swords and a theater drape. The grip length is 3.48 inches with the ferrule.
