A very fine Militia Offers sword of very high grade.  The solid, gilt brass scabbard is marked 'AMES MFG. CO./ CHICOPEE/MASS.' on the reverse with beautiful engraved detailing on the front.  There are two ring mounts with the top mount having two carry rings. The small brass throat is missing.  The blade has very detailed light etching with some small dings about 1/4 of the way up the blade from the tip. It is Gray in color with bright etching. The blade is also marked in script on the obverse 'AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS.'  The grip is beautiful mother of pearl inlaid into the gilt brass hilt with a Knights head for pommel.There is a slight chip on each side that only effects the thickness and is barely noticeable.  The chain guard is attached to the brass cross guard, that has the "star" motiff. The star was a popular design with Miliitia orginizations as well as a favorite with Texas and Mississippi. A very fine and high grade militia officer's sword by Ames C1856-1860s.
